Eight LED video displays and high-definition video server matrix
Unique commission for LVMH [Moët Hennessey, Louis Vuitton], Paris, 2004
A site-specific video installation commissioned by LVMH for their new headquarters in Paris, France. The work was made for eight vertical high-definition LED panels installed on the front and back sides of the structural columns of the space. One side depicts a scene in the middle of a forest that is slowly encircled by the camera. The majestic height of the trees and their passing through the view at different focal lengths - as well as each other - interact with the columns of support. Every so often, everyday objects, mostly of the domestic variety, “fall from the sky” and into the view. The entire scenario is computer-generated and is depicted on the backside as a kind of backstage armature in that the trees’ and objects’ geometric structures are visible against a perfect blue sky with but a few passing clouds.
Note: Title borrowed from Charles Stein's project in poetry, theforestforthetrees.
